Inpatient Therapy Services
After undergoing major surgery or neurologic conditions, many people find daily tasks a little more difficult to accomplish. Returning patients to their everyday routine is the goal of OU Medical Center Edmond 's therapy services department. Our knowledgeable staff provides inpatient and outpatient speech therapy and occupational therapy as well as inpatient physical therapy to Edmond and the surrounding areas.
Our expertise in improving independence through self care guides every patient session, and all therapies are conducted in a comfortable setting designed to maintain the dignity of those we serve.
Our certified speech therapist provides both inpatient and outpatient therapy for treatment of stroke, Neurologic Disorders, Voice Therapy, Cognitive Therapy, and Aphasia. Additionally, she is highly experienced in swallow evaluations and treatment and conducts modified barium swallows in conjunction with staff radiologists.
OU Medical Center Edmond's inpatient occupational therapy services work with our patients during their stay at the hospital to master everyday tasks upon discharge. We pride ourselves in "hands-on" treatment that is individualized for each patient by a licensed therapist. Our three occupational therapists have over 50 years of experience in treating patients and provide inpatients with the following services:

- Upper Extremity Dysfunctions (Orthopedic and Neurologic)
- Adaptive Equipment Use
- Back Care
- Pulmonary Rehabilitation
In addition, our occupational therapists provide outpatient services in our clinic located on the first floor of the hospital. Initial evaluations are performed by our occupational therapists within 24 to 72 hours of your call. This clinic offers a private, calm environment for treatment. Our inpatient physical therapists provide care for patients seven days a week so that critical rehabilitation time is not lost. With over 100 years of experience, our ten physical therapists and two physical therapy assistants provide important general strengthening services to our inpatients. Services provided by our inpatient physical therapy include:

- Wound VAC Management
Inpatients needing these services will be referred to the department by the facility's medical and nursing staff.
