OU Medical Center Edmond provides pulmonary support to our inpatients and in an outpatient setting through our Cardiopulmonary Department. Therapy is administered by our specially trained cardiopulmonary staff under the guidance of a physician and are designed around the medical needs of each individual patient.
Our respiratory therapists have over a hundred years experience in evaluating, treating, and caring for patients with breathing or other cardiopulmonary disorders. Once a course of treatment is developed, the respiratory therapy department takes on the responsibility of all respiratory care, including therapeutic treatments and diagnostic procedures. Because of our diligence and teamwork with our nursing team, OU Medical CenterEdmond has not experienced a single case of ventilator assisted pneumonia, a common hospital acquired infection, in over three years. A national average of 23 percent of patients on a ventilator will acquire this infection during their hospital stay, so our diligence and teamwork has benefited our patients substantially.

In addition to providing an individualized treatment program, the Cardiopulmonary department sponsors the Better Breathers Club, a breathing support group that meets monthly. These meetings cover a variety of breathing related topics and disorders. Meetings are held the first Thursdays of every month at noon.
