The Children's Hospital at OU Medical Center in partnership with the HCA Foundation, has teamed up with Mitchel Musso, popular entertainer and co-star of the popular TV series "Hannah Montana", to create the "Clean Hands are Cool Hands" campaign to communicate to our children the importance of hand washing to prevent and reduce the spread of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).

Although staph infections, including MRSA, occur most frequently among persons in hospitals and healthcare facilities, it can also cause illness in persons outside these facilities. The best way to prevent staph or MRSA skin infections is to practice good hygiene, including proper hand washing.  Our "Clean Hands are Cool Hands" campaign targets children in grades K-4 and teaches them the importance of keeping their hands clean by washing thoroughly with soap and water or using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

Visit our Web site, Clean Hands are Cool Hands for detailed information designed for parents and teachers as well as a "kid-friendly" section with interactive photos, video clips and music for Mitchel's fans and friends. Dr. Jonathan Perlin, chief medical officer of HCA also provides expert medical advice and information.

As the philanthropic arm of HCA, the mission of The HCA Foundation is to promote health and well being, support childhood and youth development and foster the arts. The Children's Hospital has been part of a larger national effort lead by Dr. Perlin to reduce MRSA inside all HCA hospitals. This effort has been so well received and we believe that it is so important, that we want to help teach your children about it, too. We hope you will join us in this important project.
