In the Fall of 2001, The Trauma One Center at OU Medical Center became the only level 1 trauma center in Oklahoma as verified by the American College of Surgeons (ACS).
For most people in western and central Oklahoma, the closest level 1 trauma center is located at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City. The center was verified as a level 1 trauma center by the Committee on Trauma of the American College of Surgeons (ACS). This is the highest national rating a trauma center can receive.
The Trauma One Center at OU Medical Center is perfectly located for regional access. In fact, the center is situated in one of best hospital locations in Oklahoma. It is in the geographic center of the state, Oklahoma City, and sits at the crossroads of Interstates I-40, I-35 and I-44. In addition, the Trauma One Center has full access to Medi Flight at OU Medical Center, an air ambulance service that can be dispatched in minutes to airlift patients to the best facility for critical trauma care.
OU Medical Center is located on the campus of the Oklahoma Health Center, the largest concentration of medical education, research and compassionate health care in Oklahoma. It's no wonder that OU Medical Center is the only Oklahoma City hospital that has committed the time, money and effort to be an ACS verified level 1 trauma center.
