Osteopathic Physicians

The University of Oklahoma Family Practice Residency Program is happy that you are considering our program for your residency training. As the 3rd oldest family practice residency program, we are experienced in training top quality family physicians. We welcome applications from osteopathic graduates. Currently we have (4) DO residents. Through the years many DOs have completed there residency training at OU in Oklahoma City. Please see our general FAQ for more information.

Is this program AOA approved?
No. However on completion of your internship, you will be eligible for an Oklahoma State Medical License.

Do I have to go through the AMA match?
Yes. You cannot get in through the AOA match. The match is a contractual agreement. You need to be very sure this is what you want to do.

Is this a DO friendly program?
Yes. In a program with 12 residents each year, there is room for physicians with all interests. We are happy to offer DOs the opportunity to continue their postgraduate training at OU. Just ask one of our DO graduates and current residents.

Do I have to do an AOA internship prior to entering this residency?
No. Our internship is a 12 month rotating internship which will qualify you for state licensure.

Does this program accept COMLEX?
Yes. We will accept your COMLEX scores. There is no requirement to take the USMLE.

Can a DO who has completed an AOA internship apply for a 2nd year residency position?
Yes, if there is a open position. Contact the program coordinator for details.

How do I apply for a position?
We only accept applications through ERAS. Please click here to see their website or your school for instructions.

Can I still do OMT if I train in your program?
Yes. There are no restrictions on OMT practice based on AOA certification. There are many physicians certified by the American Board of Family Practice that practice OMT.

Can I become board certified if I train here?
Yes. Upon completion of the residency program, you will be eligible to be certified in family practice by the American Board of Family Practice.
