There are several ways that OU Medical Center insures quality and patient safety. In addition to compliance with all local, state and federal laws and regulations that govern aspects of patient care, the hospital is inspected by organizations such as the Oklahoma State Department of Health, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organization, American College of Surgeons and many others.
Our patient care workers are also required to complete many years of training to receive certification in particular fields. OU Medical Center has implemented education programs to insure that our medical professionals are constantly updated with the latest methods and requirements for care. Multidisciplinary improvement teams are continually at work. Composed of doctors, nurses, hospital leadership and other health care professionals, the teams are dedicated to enhancing quality in areas such as communication, medication management, heart failure, heart attack, pneumonia and stroke.
OU Medical Center also participates in voluntary public reporting systems such as the newMedicare Hospital Compare web site and The Leapfrog Group, among others. We believe that the public benefits when it is able to directly compare hospitals on the basis of quality measurements.
