Patient Experience
As we found out we were pregnant we met with the midwives at OU and felt an immediate connection with them and decided on OU Medical Center for our birth. We were very happy with the care that we received during the pregnancy.
Halfway through my pregnancy three new midwives joined the team at OU. I met with Dawn Karlin twice during regular prenatal visits and really enjoyed her. She made me feel comfortable and answered all of my questions. Dawn spent time with me and truly cared about my pregnancy and the upcoming birth.
As we checked into the hospital on December 22nd, Dawn Karlin was the midwife on call. From the moment she entered the room I felt a connection with her. She listened to my concerns; she considered my individual situation and discussed my options. My labor was progressing slowly and she offered wonderful suggestions to get labor moving in the right direction. We tried acupressure points, walked the halls, squatted and used the bathtub. The lights were turned down and we played relaxing music and I was able to move around the room freely. It was like a beautiful dance and Dawn just let me go! Labor kicked into gear shortly after meeting with her. Dawn would check on me with kind words and loving touch, she was calm, peaceful and supportive. I felt very safe with her.
As my body relaxed and dilated to a 10, Dawn let me know that it was time for this baby to make his debut. I moved from the birth stool, to all fours and finally found my way onto the floor in a side lying position. Dawn never said a word about me moving around she just followed my lead and moved into different positions to catch the baby. With the help of my doula, husband, Dawn and nurse Kristen we delivered a beautiful baby boy at 9:34pm on Dec 23nd. Dawn helped me to have the natural and safe delivery that I envisioned. My life had changed completely and Dawn was a part of this beautiful birth story of mine.
We couldn't be happier with the labor and delivery Dawn provided for us. We feel so thankful that she helped us welcome our son into the world in a safe and healthy way! OU Medical Center should be proud to have Dawn on the team. She truly embodies the midwifery spirit and model of care.
