Bone Marrow Engraftment Monitoring by PCR
Test Information:
This assay assesses donor- and recipient-specific alleles associated with 15 polymorphic, short tandem repeat (STR) sequences to quantify donor and recipient contributions in post-bone marrow transplant samples. A “DNA fingerprint” is created for the donor and recipient prior to the transplant, and then post-transplant samples are obtained periodically and examined to quantify the amount of donor and recipient STRs in the post-transplant samples. The sensitivity of the assay is approximately 5% donor or recipient cells.
Requisition Code:
Chimerism by PCR
CPT Codes:
The CPT codes for this assay will vary depending on whether this is the first time that this patient has been tested (in which case donor(s) and pre-transplant recipient specimens must be tested in addition to a post-transplant sample) or whether this patient has been tested previously (in which case only the post-transplant sample requires testing)..
Initial post-transplant monitoring:
Single donor, pre-, and post-transplant recipient samples:
81265; 81267; G0452
Double-donor, pre-, and post-transplant recipient samples:
81265; 81266; 81267; G0452
Repeat post-transplant monitoring:
81267; G0452
Twins determination:
81265; G0452
Turn Around Time:
5-7 days
Specimen Requirements:
Collect: Peripheral blood or bone marrow: 2-5 mL in ACD (yellow top) or EDTA (purple top) tube
Storage: Room temperature
Remarks: This assay requires three specimens: (1) Pre transplant, (2) Donor, and (3) Post-transplant. Additional volume required if patient’s WBCC is below normal.
Transport: See Standard Shipping Procedures
