OU Children's Physicians Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine serves as a state-wide referral center for premature and sick newborns. Averaging 1200 admissions each year, OU Children’s NICU is the largest in the state with an 88- bed unit including 2 ECMO beds. The Center has earned a Level IV designation, the highest rating for a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, from the American Academy of Pediatrics. Our team of caregivers includes neonatologists, neonatal fellows, pediatricians, pediatric surgeons, neonatal nurse practitioners, as well as nurses, respiratory therapists, transport specialists, NIDCAP trained developmental specialists and other specially trained support staff who are on hand 24/7 to respond to newborn infants in need of highly skilled care.
As a regional perinatal center for the Oklahoma City area, the Division of Neonatology includes an infant transport service, perinatal consultation and education services, and a NICU follow-up clinic for high-risk infants who have received intensive care. The division also organizes P.C.E.P, an outreach perinatal educational program, to physicians, nurses, and other health care providers in community hospitals all over the state.
Our neonatal physicians are trained along the highest standards to provide state-of-the art medical care for our patients. As a university based program, our neonatal team participate and present at national and international meetings more than any other NICU in the state of Oklahoma. Through continuing education and active pursuit of cutting edge research, our physicians are equipped to stay up-to-date with the latest developments in neonatal medicine and deliver the highest standards of care.
