Children's Heart Center

Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care

Our cardiac critical care team is an exceptional resource that isn’t available in many children’s hospitals. In fact, we have the only pediatric cardiac intensive care unit in Oklahoma. Our team provides patients with innovative, lifesaving care that fosters excellent outcomes. The primary focus of our team is to help patients heal as quickly as possible so they can be transferred out of the intensive-care setting and prepare for discharge.

Our cardiac critical care team provides an extraordinarily high level of care for newborns, infants and children with congenital and acquired heart conditions. Through years of experience in providing intensive care for patients with congenital cardiac disease, our multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurses and specialists has compiled a track record of providing care that is among the best in the country.

Equipped with the most advanced technology and designed to be a comfortable, parent-centered environment, the pediatric intensive care unit is centrally located in the inpatient bed tower at The Children’s Hospital and is just a short elevator ride away from surgical services and other key diagnostic- or procedural-care areas.

This location also provides convenient access to patient– and family–support services throughout the hospital. Parents can be close to their child in the room at all times or be just a few steps away in a comfortably furnished waiting area. Patients, family members and staff alike are encouraged to create artwork that is displayed throughout the care area.

As a part of our academic mission, our team is actively engaged in providing continuing education and one-on-one preceptorships that enable our new employees to develop the highly specialized skill sets needed to successfully execute sophisticated care practices and provide superior care. Our team also dedicates time to a variety of research initiatives, as well as collecting and analyzing data for scholarly articles.
