How Can I Be Screened For Breast Cancer?

  • Self Breast Exam - The Self Breast Exam is an at-home screening method allowing women (and men) to examine their breast tissue for physical changes (such as lumps, swelling, pain, change in nipple position or nipple discharge) and visual changes (such as rash, redness or other skin discoloration and changes in skin texture/consistency such as dimpling or puckering). This method should be done monthly and any changes should be reported to your doctor upon discovery.
  • Clinical Breast Exam - A Clinical Breast Exam is performed by a health care provider who has received training specific to this exam. It is most commonly done by a gynecologist or family medicine physician during an annual well-woman physical.
