Faculty, Students Earn Springtime Honors

Suman Wasan, M.D., professor in the Department of Medicine, Section of Cardiovascular Diseases, receives a Regents’ Professorship Award from OU Regent Clay Bennett.

Spring is a busy time for faculty and student award ceremonies in the College of Medicine.
Faculty members and residents from the Oklahoma City campus receiving Aesculapian Awards in 2017 were:

  • Mohammad Madhoun, M.D., Department of Medicine: Class of 2020 Preclinical Faculty Award
  • Molly R. Hill, Ph.D., Department of Microbiology and Immunology: Class of 2019 Preclinical Award
  • Ronni E. Farris, M.D., Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology: Class of 2018 Resident Award
  • Mark R. Allee, M.D., Department of Medicine: Class of 2018 Faculty Award
  • Steve M. Blevins, M.D., Department of Medicine: Class of 2017 Faculty Award

Podalirian Awards on the Oklahoma City campus were presented to:

  • Stephanie N. Schatzman-Bone, Class of 2020
  • Jake P. Morgan, Class of 2019
  • April C. Abeyewardene, Class of 2018
  • Colleen A. Parrish, Class of 2017

Molly Hill, Ph.D., professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, receives an Aesculapian Award from Coralee Toal, president of the College of Medicine Student Council.

Also at the Aesculapian banquet, the 2017 Edgar W. Young Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to M. Dewayne Andrews, M.D., Dean Emeritus, Regents’ Professor Emeritus and David Ross Boyd Professor Emeritus of Medicine.

Steve Blevins, M.D., associate professor in the Department of Medicine and associate dean for medical education, receives an Aesculapian Award from Coralee Toal, president of the College of Medicine Student Council.

Because of severe weather, this year’s Senior Banquet was canceled. However, award winners were recognized during Commencement. The primary awards were:

  • The Dr. G. Rainey Williams Scholar: Dr. Courtney M. Bisson
  • The Dr. R. McKinley Williams Scholar: Dr. Katherine A. Mailey
