OKLAHOMA CITY ― Catherine Pierce, MS, RNC, has been named the chief nursing officer of OU Medical System, the state’s largest and most comprehensive health system.

In her role as chief nursing officer, Pierce is responsible for overseeing and coordinating OU Medical System’s nursing team and its daily operations.

“Pierce is passionate about nursing practice and is committed to the impact nurses have on the outcomes for our patients and the experience of the patients and families we serve,” said Charles L. Spicer, president and CEO of OU Medical System.

Pierce began working on the OU Medicine campus in 1997 while in nursing school. After graduating, she worked as a nurse on the labor and delivery unit at the-then University Hospital. She spent 11 years in women’s services and was promoted to director of women’s services in 2006 before moving into an executive position.  

In 2008, Pierce became vice president of nursing at The Children’s Hospital at OU Medical Center. In addition to her vice president role, she has been serving as interim chief nursing officer for OU Medical System for the past year.

She has an associate degree in nursing from Oklahoma State University-Oklahoma City; a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Central Oklahoma; and a master’s degree in nursing education from Southern Nazarene University.

Pierce is a native of Okmulgee and has lived in Oklahoma City for the past 20 years. She and her husband Mark have four children: Payton, Lola, Gracie and Zachary.
