THE CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL CARDIOTHORACIC SURGEON ELECTED FELLOW OF AMERICAN SURGICAL ASSOCIATION

OKLAHOMA CITY— Cardiothoric surgeon Dr. Harold Burkhart was recently elected fellow of the American Surgical Association (ASA) for his body of work and contribution to the advancement of the field.

ASA is the nation’s oldest and most prestigious surgical organization. Burkhart was officially inducted in April during the ASA’s 137th annual meeting in Philadelphia.

“Dr. Burkhart is well-qualified for this prestigious membership,” said The Children’s Hospital at OU Medical Center CEO Jon Hayes. “He is one of the foremost pediatric cardiothoracic surgeons in the country leading the way on cutting-edge treatments for congenital heart issues while delivering the highest quality of care and educating the physicians of tomorrow. With this membership, Burkhart will continue leading health care and helping elevate the knowledge and standards of the surgical profession.”

Burkhart is a professor of surgery and division chief of cardiovascular and thoracic surgery at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine and co-medical director of Children’s Heart Center at The Children’s Hospital at OU Medical Center.

The American Surgical Association was founded in 1880, and its members include the nation’s most prominent surgeons from the country’s leading academic medical institutions.
