Residency Candidate Information

In recruiting residents, we pay particular attention to the character of candidates with emphasis on a commitment to the principles of excellence, collegiality, and innovation.

The process for applying to the OU neurology residency program is as follows:

  • We only receive applications through ERAS and we participate in the NRMP match
  • The deadline for submission of applications is November 1
  • Our program is categorical; residents who match in OU neurology are automatically accepted into  the OU internal medicine program for the preliminary year
  • No U.S. experience is required
  • We sponsor J1 visas, but not H1B visas
  • Candidates may apply with an EAD, but must have either a green card or visa prior to starting the residency (one cannot begin residency with an EAD)
  • We will only offer interviews to candidates who pass the following screening criteria:
    • USMLE scores of > 50th percentile on all steps with no failed attempts
    • Passing score of USMLE CS with no failed attempts
    • Evidence of interest in neurology, such as
      • Research in a neurologic field
      • Publications in a neurologic field
      • Extra or elective rotations in neurology during medical school
      • Previous neurology residency, or portion thereof
    • Clinical experience in a neurology-related area within the last 5 years
