Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

   
 

Children between 4 and 11 years of age may participate in this study if they have signs or symptoms of ADHD 
and suspected or confirmed prenatal alcohol exposure.

Teacher participation is required except for school breaks.

Child must be less than 70 kg (154 lbs).

An investigational medication will be dispensed to take each morning that may help children with this problem.

All study specific assessments are completed without charge.

There is reimbursement for travel and gas costs.

Appointments occur on Wednesdays.

Your child will be seen by a neurodevelopmental disabilities and behavioral pediatrician.

Visits are scheduled weekly for about a month and then bi-weekly followed by monthly and then quarterly. There is close supervision to verify accurate medication dosage during the first few weeks of treatment.

Children less than 6 years of age should have complete a Parent Child Interaction Therapy Program prior to involvement or concurrent to involvement in this study.

This is a 2 - part study.  The first part involves a placebo and lasts from 4 - 8 weeks after medication is prescribed.  The second part of the study is open-label.
