Pediatric Emergency Medicine

The Emergency Department at Children's Hospital at OU Medical Center treats over 45,000 children each year.  Our dedicated physician and nursing staff are equipped to manage the medical, traumatic, surgical, and psychosocial emergencies that are seen.  Our patients come from home, practitioner offices, and referring hospitals all over the state of Oklahoma. Double Attending coverage is provided 24 hours a day in the ED with all pediatric sub specialties available by phone. Both the hospitalist and intensive care unit provide In-house coverage 24/7, that enable us to provide Oklahoma with around-the-clock access to comprehensive pediatric care.

The Children's Hospital Emergency Department is designated as a Level 2 facility and receives Level 2 trauma patients.  All Level 1 traumas in the Oklahoma City metropolitan area, including the western part of Oklahoma, are transported to OU Medical Center.  There is a designated Trauma Team available 24 hours a day.

The Emergency Department faculty is comprised of 15 board eligible/certified Pediatric Emergency Medicine physicians, four board certified pediatricians, one emergency medicine board certified physician, one physician assistant and four nurse practitioners who staff the Emergency Department.

The Fast Track area is comprised of seven additional rooms that are open 14-16 hours a day, depending on the season.  The area is staffed with an additional attending physician.
