Course Goals

The goal of the PALS course:

PALS is needed to reinforce the important concepts of a systematic approach to pediatric assessment, basic life support (BLS), PALS treatment algorithms, effective resuscitation, and team dynamics. The goal of the PALS Course is to improve the quality of care provided to seriously ill or injured children, resulting in improved outcomes. 

Requirement: You must be a current CPR HealthCare Provider. You will be checked off on infant and child CPR as part of the PALS course. If you are not a current CPR provider then you will not be able to complete your PALS. 

The course's Offered: 

PALS Provider Renewal course ($175.00) – This is an 8-hour course normally conducted in 1 day.

PALS Provider Initial course ($245.00) – This is a 16-hour course normally conducted over 2 days.

PALS Registration Form:  

If you are enrolling in the PALS Online Course:Access codes will be emailed within 48 hours of orders placed between 8:00am-4:30pm CST Monday-Friday. If order is placed on Friday after 3pm CST, access code will be emailed Monday.

You must be CPR certified and current to complete PALS. 

You will recieve an email from EMSC 1-2 weeks prior to your course or skills date with course information and confirmation.

Online PALS

  • ONLINE PALS with Skills Assessment
    Fee: $255

    If you would like to recertify using the online option, we can provide you with a "key" for the online course.  This online course must be followed by an in-person skills assessment.  Skills assessment appointments are offered monthly.  This course can be taken as a refresher, even if your PALS certification has lapsed.  However, it is not recommended that the online course be taken by someone requiring an initial certification. Based on (2015) criteria.
After completing PALS Online, Skills Assessment are at 10:00 AM - 12:15 PM. If completing BLS Online also, both Skills Assessments will be done in this time frame. Select one date.

Skills only is $95.00. This is if you have already completed PALS Online (within the past 60 days) based on the 2015 update guidelines. Email your PALS completion certificate to complete your skills assessment.

Optional BLS Recertification: Recertification Fee: $40

If you also need to recertify in BLS, we can provide you with an online "key" so that you can take the BLS online course prior to the PALS course.  At the beginning or end of your PALS course/appointment, you will have an opportunity to demonstrate your BLS skills to the instructor.  Upon successful completion of this skills assessment, you will be given a BLS completion eCard.

Steps to Become a New Instructor

  1. Request Permission to Affiliate with the OU Board of Regents Training Center
  • Submit a copy of your provider card and describe any teaching/instructor experience you have.
  • Explain what types of courses and audiences you plan to teach (e.g. refresher courses for co-workers or community courses for volunteer groups, etc.)
  • Provide a reference from someone who can attest to your character and/or abilities as an instructor.

2. Enroll in our Instructor Course

  • Once permission is granted, you may register on our website
  • You may either pay for the course online or request to be invoiced.  If someone other than you (such as your employer) will be paying for the course, you can ask that the invoice be sent to that person

3.Successfully Complete the Discipline-Specific Instructor Essentials Online Course

  • Once you are registered for the course, you’ll be sent instructions for completing the Instructor Essentials online course.
  • Your instructor manual will be mailed, as portions of the online course require you to reference this manual.
  • Once you have completed the course, you’ll need to print the course completion certificate, and bring it with you to the classroom Instructor Course.

4.Successfully complete the discipline-specific classroom Instructor Course

  • You will attend an in-person course.  This course will include hand-on instructor practice and a review of policies and procedures specific to our Training Center
  • This course includes a written exam.

5.Successfully be monitored teaching your first course within six months after completing the Instructor Course. Training Center Coordinators may require additional monitoring.

  • You will schedule your first course with one of our Training Center Faculty. 
  • Before, during, and after your course, our TCF will act as a resource reviewing your conduct and providing feedback.  

This course covers planning and preparation for courses, instructing courses, conducting written exams and skills testing and keeping your PALS Instructor status current. It includes approximately 30 minutes of general information about instructing AHA courses, followed by course-specific information. Prior to taking this course, candidates must have a current course completion card in PALS. Candidates also must have aligned with an AHA PALS Training Center that is accepting new PALS Instructors.

  • Upon successful completion of all steps, candidates receive a PALS Instructor card, valid for two years
