FOURTH-YEAR MEDICAL STUDENT EDUCATION
We offer a fourth-year elective month for any student interested in learning about newborn medicine in greater detail than can be afforded during the one-week rotation during their third year.  Educational opportunities are available in the following areas:

  1. Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

  2. Newborn Village (NICU Step-Down Unit)

  3. Newborn Nursery

  4. Prenatal Consultation, Resuscitation, and Transition

  5. Lactation

  6. Research

  7. Advocacy

The student will meet with Dr. Song a couple of weeks prior to starting their rotation to discuss which of the opportunities they would like to pursue.  Although the rotation will have some basic structure, the focus is on the student participating in those activities in which they desire more in-depth training.

Dr. Clara Song is the Director for the Student Program in Neonatal Medicine and Dr. Mark Pofemiller is the Director for the Pediatric 4th Year Program.

Contact Chelsea Baker, the Education Coordinator in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine, about any of these opportunities via e-mail or phone (271-5215 ext. 42153).
