Pediatric Surgery

When your child’s life and health are in our hands for any type of surgical care, we are dedicated to following through with focused care from the initial introduction until the day you go home. We believe that children and families feel less anxiety and that outcomes are better overall when there’s a close relationship among the patient, family and medical team. You can feel comfortable knowing the surgeon who cares for your child during surgery will be the same one following up, monitoring progress and standing by to oversee care for every detail, small or large, for as long as your child is in our care.

We are Oklahoma’s only fully dedicated, comprehensive children’s hospital, with more than 1,800 pediatric surgeries entrusted to the expertise of our team every year. Pediatric care is not simply another department or floor at OU Medicine – it’s our 24-hour-a-day 100 percent commitment. That means pediatric specialists are on-site for every part of care, including anesthesiology, radiology, emergency care, routine care, nursing and support services.

Among other conditions, we specialize in treating: cancer, birth defects, ambiguous genitalia, biliary atresia, diaphragmatic hernia, duodenal atresia, esophageal atresia, gastroschisis, gastroesophageal reflux, hiatal hernia, Hirschsprung’s disease, imperforate anus, inguinal hernia, necrotizing enterocolitis, neuroblastoma, omphalocele, rhabdomyosarcoma, ulcerative colitis, umbilical hernia, Wilms’ tumor.
