Pediatric General & Outpatient Surgery

As pediatric surgeons, we have a unique opportunity in our role with patients. Sometimes, we are a child’s first and only experience with a medical procedure. Other times, we become like part of the family as we see kids and their families for extended stays in the hospital or throughout childhood.

Whatever the situation, and no matter the complexity of the care, our foremost commitment is to build trust, communicate clearly and lead with both compassion and confidence. As specialists in pediatric care, we chose the only fully dedicated children’s hospital in the state because kids are our passion – and the research, innovation, technology and tools to give them the best possible outcomes are right here in our hands.

What to Bring for Your Child’s Surgery

Bring a favorite toy or blanket and information about what medications your child is taking. Always prepare to spend one night “just in case.” A small overnight bag might include toothbrush and toothpaste, hairbrush, comfortable clothes, undergarments, pajamas, and socks or slippers. Do not bring any valuable items.

Where Your Child Will Go After Surgery

After surgery, your child will go to the Recovery Room to wake up. Depending upon the surgery and the surgeon, your child may spend the night in one of the inpatient rooms or they may be discharged to go home.

Visiting Hours

There are no set visiting hours for outpatient or recovery. Parents are welcome at all times. There is a waiting room available for other visitors.

Overnight Stays

When a child spends the night in the hospital, parents are encouraged to stay with them.
