Prior to joining the staff at OU, Dr. Shavney spent the majority of her career in private practice where she served as Chief of Surgery at several large area hospitals in Oklahoma City. During that time, she also served as President of the County Medical Society, as well as serving on multiple medical boards that helped further her in both patient care and physician knowledge. Her medical work also earned her Chickasaw Nation’s esteemed Dynamic Woman of the Year Award in 2009, something she is particularly proud of as a member of the Chickasaw Nation herself.

Dr. Shavney’s extensive experience has helped her develop unparalleled skills in patient care. This includes not just helping patients get better but helping them to best understand their diagnoses and making them feel a part of the process. As important as private practice was to her career, joining the staff at OU has provided her with the important opportunity to not only help a wider range of patients, but also helping teach the young surgical residents of the Health Sciences Center to hone their skills and teaching them how to treat patients as a whole.
