Congratulations to 3 OU-OKC students who were recently elected to the student delegation of the AAPA House of Delegates!

Recently graduated Class of 2018 Amy Hamilton, Class of 2019 students Johnnie L Gilpen Jr and Julie Torres will be part of the largest delegation in the AAPA HOD.

The HOD is responsible for enacting policies establishing the collective values, philosophies and principals of the PA profession. Congratulations and way to go for representing the OU-OKC program!

 

These students have been representing the program amazingly! Diana Wiley, Hillary Bennett, and Nelson Head was with the AAPA Student Academy Board of Directors in Alexandria, VA. The OUHSC PA Program represented 3 out of 11 students Nationwide!

Congratulations to Dr. Frederick (Kris) Miller! Dr. Miller was selected by the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine Academy of Teaching Scholars as a recipients of the 2018 Dewayne Andrews MD Excellence in Teaching Award. We are honored to have him on faculty with the OKC PA Program. He is an incredible asset to the program and to the students.

The A. W. Horsley Physician Assistant Student Society hosted the 6th annual Great Minds Think Alike seminar. The event was held on Monday, October 8th to kick off the national PA Week. GMTA is a student orchestrated event meant to foster the relationships between physicians, physician assistants, and other healthcare team counterparts early in their academic career.

To host this years event, they had Jeff Evans, PA-C - adventurer, mountaineer, and life guide as the keynote speaker.

Dr. Yozzo is joined with the rest of the OUHSC Team at the Fall 2018 Interprofessional Education Collaborative in Phoenix, AZ. OUHSC had some great representation last week!

On Friday, August 31, 2018, the Stanhope lecture was delivered by Lauren Dobbs, PA-C. There were also multiple scholarship awards handed out to current students. Congratulations to those students who were awarded scholarships!

Congratulations to Rachel Murphy, Class of 2019! Rachel has been selected for the Student Health Policy Fellowship which will be held in Washington DC, September 9-12, 2018. Her application was among many well-qualified candidates across the country. We know she will be a great asset and representation of the program to the PAEA's 2018 fellowship class.

OUHSC PA Program Director Announcement- Dr. Melody Yozzo

Congratulations to Dr. Yozzo. We are very pleased to announce that Dr. Melody Yozzo, who recently obtained her doctorate in health education from A.T. Still University, has accepted the appointment as the Director of the OUHSC’s Physician Associate Program effective June 1, 2018. Dr. Yozzo has a distinguished career as an educator serving as our program’s associate director for the last year and previously as the director of the PA program at Northeastern State University and prior to that as director of didactic education at OU-Tulsa’s PA Program. She also has worked as a clinical PA for ConocoPhillips in Ponca City, OK and in a rural family medicine clinic in Newkirk, OK.
