GOLD HUMANISM HONOR SOCIETY PROJECTS

GHHS SOLIDARITY WEEK (2018)

SENT ON BEHALF OF RUSSELL G. POSTIER, MD-EXECUTIVE DEAN, COLLEGE OF MEDICINE

Dear OU Medicine Community:

On Wednesday, March 14th the OU College of Medicine Chapter of the GOLD HUMANISM HONOR SOCIETY (GHHS) will be hosting a day long rally highlighting the importance of compassionate care.  This is an initiative formulated within the structure of the national GHHS Solidary Week.  The project is led by the current 4th year medical student members of the GHHS with participation by all available 4th year medical students in the Class of 2018 as well as a group of faculty and resident members of the chapter.

Each area of OUMC and OU Children's Hospital will have team members passing out GHHS buttons with the logo "OU Cares Together".  This messaging of enhancing our compassionate care when we work as a team will provide all of us with a reminder of the solidarity we share in our passion for medicine and our vocation as healers.  I invite you to join in this celebration when you see students passing out these buttons as we cultivate our environment focused on collaboration to meet our patients' most sensitive needs.

Sincerely,
William M. Tierney, MD

COMMUNITY SERVICE AT THE MOORE RESOURCE CENTER (2017)

The GHHS Chapter for the OU COM annual service project was held April 15, 2017 at the Moore Food and Resource Center.   Faculty and student members participated in a health fair and nutritional education program for resource center clients.   Approximately 50-60 clients attended the fair and were provided access to blood pressure and BMI screening as well as education on tobacco cessation and healthy living habits.  The objective of the project was to carry out the GHHS mission of compassionate and collaborative care with a goal of keeping healthcare human.  The free access to these screenings and health care resources forged the commitment of the volunteers to these principles.
