Following are a few examples of the sophisticated technology used by OU Physicians:

  • Our neurosurgeons have established the Southwest's major referral center for complex neurosurgical cases. They use one of only two Gamma Knives in the state to treat abnormalities in the brain without surgery. They also use stereotactic-guided technology and MRIs to probe and electronically map the brain. They are then able to perform image-guided surgery with full view of the brain tumor, vascular malformation or trigeminal neuralgia.
  • We're the only practice in the state with a gastroenterologist who performs endoscopic ultrasonography and minimally invasive fine-needle aspiration procedures in and around the digestive tract. Endoscopic ultrasonography is the most accurate means of staging the majority of gastrointestinal tumors, including esophageal, rectal, pancreatic and gastric cancers.
  • One of our physicians pioneered radiofrequency catheter ablation procedures. These innovative procedures treat heart rhythm disorders. Physicians from around the globe travel here to learn the procedures, and patients come from all over the world to be treated with them.
