Typical Plan of Study for Ph.D. Students

A typical plan of study for a neuroscience graduate student who enters through the GPiBS or OCNS program.  During the first year, students complete interdisciplinary coursework emphasizing molecular and cellular systems, along with three required research rotations, with an optional fourth rotation.  These courses and lab rotations are coordinated through the GPiBS office for GPIBS students and the OCNS office for Direct Admit students. During the second year, students take advanced classes relevant to neuroscience and focus on their research.  Additional electives are generally taken after the second year to gain more specialized knowledge in areas relevant to the student’s research.  These electives are not shown as they vary considerably according to the interests of each student.
