OU Medical System Nurse Residencies

The OU Medical System Nurse Residency Program provides the new graduate nurse with resources and rich experiences that will serve as a strong foundation for a successful nursing career.  With guidance from a one-on-one coach and oversight of a Unit Residency Coordinator, OU Medical System Nurse Residents are given the support necessary to successfully bridge the transition from student to practicing nurse.  The two-year program contains ongoing structured learning opportunities, a strong network of social support and mentoring, and preparation to obtain national certification in their chosen specialty area.

 Resources and support provided include:

  • One-on-one coaching by an experienced coach

  • Educational materials for specialty area

  • Social networking and support

  • On-going continuing educational opportunities

  • Certification review programs

  • Involvement in interdisciplinary and collaborative programs

  • Research and evidence-based practice opportunities

Eligibility criteria:

  • Have valid Oklahoma nursing license prior to beginning the program

  • Have less than six months acute care RN experience

  • Willing to commit and remain at OU Medical System for two years

When to apply?

You should begin applying at the beginning of your last semester prior to graduation.

How to apply?

Only apply to your top two (2) units.  Our goal is to help you find your career, not just a   job.      Hiring Managers want you to be as passionate about their units as they are.

When do I need to be licensed?

You must have an Oklahoma RN license at least one week prior to your first day of orientation.  The license must be viewed on the Oklahoma Board of Nursing website by the Wednesday prior to orientation.

When is orientation?

Each unit or service line has a specific orientation date.

Do you provide NCLEX assistance?

We offer an online review from the NCSBN and you can sign up once an offer is made.

What are the pay cycles?

Each pay period will cover two weeks.  Checks are paid out every other Friday by direct deposit.
