By using state-of-the-art technology, training and instrumentation, the laboratory professionals at OU Medicine help prevent disease by detecting unknown problems and aiding in the diagnosis and treatment of health conditions.

Our labs encompass many specialties for children and adults. We contribute to vital health programs by providing laboratory services for:

  • Organ transplant programs 
  • Breast and cervical cancer screening program for the Oklahoma State Department of Health
  • Early cancer detection programs for Stephenson Cancer Center  
  • Harold Hamm Diabetes Research Center
  • Pediatric and adult infectious disease testing
  • Level 1 Trauma Center transfusion services

OU Medicine has patient service centers, clinical laboratories and anatomic pathology services in Oklahoma City and Edmond. These facilities occupy approximately 70,000 square feet. We have more than 250 technical and clerical staff to meet your needs. The Pathology Department of OU Physicians provides the professional services for our laboratory. We perform approximately 140,000 laboratory tests per month.

For our patient’s safety, we use a data-linked computer system, interfaced with instruments and processes, to integrate patient results with other electronic systems. Security, privacy and accuracy are critical elements of our laboratory’s contribution to the patient’s medical record.  

Our lab are accredited by the College of American Pathologists, Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, American Association of Blood Banks and the American Society of Histocompatibility and Immunology. Our pathologists are participants in several cooperative groups for clinical trials in oncology, including the Southwest Oncology Group, Gynecologic Oncology Group, Pediatric Oncology Group, the ALTS study and the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast Project. We are affiliated with several local and national specialty and reference laboratories.Laboratory services are available to patients from physician's offices, clinics, hospitals and the state Department of Health through our outreach services. Our lab couriers transport specimens, documents, equipment and supplies to facilitate quick, effective lab testing and reporting. OU Physicians serve as consultation resources for difficult diagnostic problems and special procedures referred to us by other pathologists and clinicians.
