About Rehabilitation Services

Excelling in moving patients to the next level of care is the vision that drives our care.  Our team of therapists, dedicated to the treatment of the patient who has been discharged from the hospital environment, will work to make life at home the most it can be for each patient.  Whether you are recovering from a traumatic injury, have experienced debilitation due to a major health crisis, need care for a complicated wound or need hand therapy to continue your current career.  The therapists at OU Medical Center can make those things a reality for you.

Our Staff

Our clinicians are dedicated to evidenced based treatment of their patients by participating in research and investing in their continuing education. Each clinician holds a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctorate in their respective physical, occupational or speech language pathology fields, and are licensed through the State Board of Medical Licensure to practice in the state of Oklahoma.   Advanced certifications include a Certified Hand Therapist, Certified Wound Specialists, as well as a pedorthotist.

Our Services

Upon your doctor’s referral, our staff will provide an evaluation of your condition and listen to your concerns and questions. Together, you and your therapists will develop goals and a customized treatment plan of selective interventions that are evidence based practices and customized to your unique needs.  A part of every treatment plan is to provide training to you in education in the healing process and instructions on future management to prepare both the patient and the family for discharge planning. Treatment services provided by the department’s staff may include:

  • Wound care/burn care

  • Splinting

  • Mobilization including gait training

  • Strengthening/Endurance training

  • Balance and coordination skills

  • Manual therapies

  • Modalities for healing/pain management

  • Training in use of adaptive and mobility equipment

  • Communication and cognitive training

  • Tracheoesophageal prosthesis for post laryengectomy patients

Our therapists will keep you informed of your progress and adjust the plan should it be necessary for the best outcome.  Outpatient operations are Monday through Friday from 8 to 5 PM each day.

Patients needing further therapy services after their inpatient stay can receive outpatient care right here at OU Medical Center Rehabilitation Services Department. Currently, services offered on an outpatient basis include physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech language pathology.

Our department is conveniently located just inside the east entrance of OU Medical Center on the lower level.  All patients must have a referral for therapy from their doctor to initiate outpatient services. Referrals can be faxed to our registrar from the doctor’s office.   OU Medical Center accepts most insurance plans including Medicare and Medicaid.  If you’re an employer, we work with your employees on workers compensation.
