About Outpatient Surgery

We offer outpatient surgery in a friendly setting with all of the advantages a major medical center has to offer, including advanced technology, nursing support, physician availability and easy access.

How can I prepare for my surgery?

  • Please do not eat or drink anything, including chewing gum, hard candy, water or mints, after midnight the day of your surgery. The anesthesiologist cannot administer anesthetic with food in your system. Eating can cause your surgery to be rescheduled.
  • Please do not use any alcohol or tobacco products the week of your surgery. Tobacco causes your blood pressure to rise and decreases the amount of oxygen carried in the body. Alcohol prevents the anesthetic from working correctly.
  • Please avoid bringing young children the day of your surgery. We suggest you make childcare arrangements in advance.
  • Please make arrangements for a responsible adult to drive you home after surgery. If your driver is unable to stay with you, you will need to provide the nurse with the telephone number of your driver. The nurse will call and verify your ride. For your safety, if you do not have a licensed driver, your surgery will have to be rescheduled.
  • Minors must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. The legal guardian must show guardianship papers.

What do I do the day of surgery?

  • Please remove all makeup and fingernail polish the day of surgery. If you have acrylic nails, please remove the polish from one of your nails on each hand.
  • If you take daily medications, please bring the medications with you the day of your surgery. A list of all your medications and dosages will be helpful to the anesthesiologist for deciding which medications you should take the morning of surgery and also while preparing for surgery.
  • Please wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing the day of your surgery so you can easily dress afterward.
  • Please bring cases for your eyeglasses, contact lenses, dentures and/or bridgework. This will help prevent any damage to your personal items.
