Living Donor Program

Make a life-changing contribution to a loved one or friend who lives with kidney (renal) failure and remains on dialysis. Help them avoid years on the organ transplant wait list as their health deteriorates.

By donating an organ, you also may help someone you don’t even know. Many living donors just want to help a stranger in need — often anonymously. Transplant specialists sometimes find that an unrelated living donor makes an even better match than a person’s biological relative.

Living Donor Services Close to Home

If you or a loved one becomes a living organ donor through OU Health’s transplant center in Oklahoma City, know that your organ donation care team makes the process as smooth as possible. You work with a dedicated living donor surgeon and benefit from a team approach that makes your health as much a priority as the person in need.

Legal Protection for Living Donors

Living donors in Oklahoma get protection under the Living Donor Protection Act — which prevents insurers from denying or raising rates for life insurance, disability insurance or long-term care insurance because of their status as a living donor.

The strong advocacy of representatives from OU Health, the Oklahoma Hospital Association, National Kidney Foundation and Lifeshare Transplant Donor Services of Oklahoma helped get Senate Bill 704 passed at the state legislature.
