About Children's Nephrology

If your child has a challenging kidney condition, your family deals not only with the disease but also with the complications that can accompany it. Our nephrologists provide comprehensive treatments and the latest innovations in care specifically for kidney problems.

OU Children's Physicians pediatric nephrologists provide Oklahoma's only children's kidney transplants and staff the only dedicated children's hemodialysis and outpatient peritoneal dialysis unit in the state. We provide dialysis to children and adolescents up to age 18 who have acute renal failure, end-stage renal disease or acute poisoning.

The pediatric nephrologic expertise available at OU Children's Physicians rivals that at any top health center in the nation. Our team works closely with other specialists, such as pediatric cardiologists, pediatric rheumatologists and pediatric endocrinologists. These other specialists have pediatric-specific training and daily experience evaluating and treating children.

Your child also will benefit from access to our nurse educators, who helps you and your child manage medications and make beneficial lifestyle changes. The nurse can also help coordinate care with various laboratories and specialists. We have a multi-disciplinary team providing social and psychological support to help you and your child thrive despite having chronic kidney disease, along with a dietitian to provide education for special diets required to maintain health in children with kidney disease. Best of all, your child will be treated close to home with all the resources needed to care for any pediatric renal condition.

Turn to us if your child has a condition involving:

  • Kidney failure
  • Kidney transplant
  • Blood or protein in the urine
  • Bladder or kidney infections
  • High blood pressure
  • Fluid and electrolyte disorders
