OU Medical Center Volunteers

Mission Statement

The Medical Center Volunteers, a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit, provides support and non-clinical care to patients and families at OU Medical Center through compassion, quality care and teamwork.

Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers can serve in a number of capacities, including:

  • Information Desk volunteers assist patients, families and visitors in navigating our facility. Information Desk volunteers directly interact with visitors, providing guidance and direction, and also deliver patient mail, gifts and flowers as needed.

  • Coffee Cart volunteers visit waiting areas and patient floors to offer free coffee, hot chocolate and tea.

  • Popcorn volunteers pop and sell fresh popcorn in our main concourse. This fundraising activity helps support our programs to benefit patients, families and the community.

  • Glass Door Gift Shop volunteers help visitors shop and select items; all proceeds benefit the patient projects of the volunteer group.

  • Knitters volunteer from home making lap blankets, pillows and other items for patients of the hospital.

  • Other volunteer opportunities are sometimes available, including delivering new patient welcome gifts, distributing magazines, office work, Art Wall, committees and more. During your individual interview we will explore all the opportunities open to you.

Volunteer Requirements
Volunteers must be 18 years of age and be available at least four hours a week for at least a year. Our greatest need for volunteers is Monday-Friday during regular business hours.

All applicants are required to have an individual interview. Once accepted, applicants complete a health screening (including a drug test), the photo ID procedure, pass a background check and attend an orientation session to prepare for the volunteer position. This process may take four to six weeks. All requirements are provided by the hospital at no cost to the volunteer. Please call or email to schedule an individual interview.

A Teen Volunteer Program is available during the summer. Applications are typically due in April.
