Mission Statement

To promote family centered care and empower families for a successful transition from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at OU Children's Hospital to home and community through caring, compassionate support.  OITP workers advocate for families at the national, state and local levels.

The Oklahoma Infant Transition Program (OITP) serves infants and families in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Children's Hospital at OU Medical Center.  The program focuses on the family's needs as they take their baby home and helps them connect with support services.  OITP social workers manage the Tuesday Oklahoma Transition Clinic for infants who are medically fragile after discharge home.  Developmental and behavioral needs of NICU infants are addressed by assessment and discussion with families and the NICU staff.

OITP is part of the Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Section, Department of Pediatrics at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (OUHSC).  The program and is funded by a Title V Maternal Child Health Block Grant through the Oklahoma Department of Human Services, Division of Family Support Services, Health Related and Medical Services (Children with Special Health Care Needs).
