Why pediatric radiology?

When your child needs an imaging study or procedure, you and your physician want to know that you are choosing the right test at the right time, and going to the right place.

Often performing an x-ray or other imaging procedures on a child is challenging. Children, especially young children, have a hard time holding still for an x-ray, or may be frightened by the size and noise of an MRI or a CT scanner.  Children’s smaller, rapidly growing bodies can be more sensitive to the radiation produced by an x-ray or CT scanner.  The dose of radiation has to be adjusted to match the child’s size and age in order to obtain a high quality image and to minimize their exposure to radiation.

The radiology department staff works with you, your child and your doctor to make sure your child's experience is as safe and pleasant as possible while obtaining the most proper images for an accurate diagnosis.

Our Specialist

We use specially trained staff, pleasant child-friendly surroundings and dedicated child life specialists to help make your child’s experience as non-scary and enjoyable as possible.

Safety: We use national "Image Gently" guidelines and employ equipment and techniques tailored to give "child sized" doses for x-rays, CT scans and nuclear medicine studies.

Sedation and anesthesia for your child: Our skilled staff helps young children stay calm and still for imaging studies by using age-appropriate distraction techniques that includes music, images and lighting (learn more).  If your child does need sedation or anesthesia, we have a team of anesthesiologists, pediatric intensivists and nurses experienced and trained in pediatric care.

Image interpretation: We use radiologists who have specialized training and experience in interpreting images of children.
