PICU services unique to the region include:

  • Pediatric cardiac program
  • Pediatric extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO)
  • Pediatric dialysis
  • Otorhinolaryngology (ORL) or ear, nose and throat services
  • Craniofacial surgeries
  • Kidney transplantation
  • Complex thoracic surgeries
  • Pediatric trauma services

The physician staff, along with a team of nurse practitioners, physician assistants and nurses, performs complex surgeries that include heart, orthopedic, craniofacial, neurosurgery and general surgeries. We have eight pediatric intensive care doctors. We also have endocrinology, nephrology and hematology/oncology programs. Every nurse in the PICU is certified in pediatric advanced life support.

The PICU supports families and incorporates them into care. The unit is open at all times, and parents and caregivers can be at the bedside without restriction. There are limitations to the number and ages of visitors.

The Child Life staff is also available to patients and families in the PICU. They help kids to just be kids by providing play opportunities, whether through medical play, therapeutic play or play for normalcy.  Learn more about Child Life.
