Daniel J. Culkin, MD, FACS, is a professor of adult urology. Dr. Culkin served as chairperson of the Department of Urology from July 1st, 1994 to June 30th, 2011. His educational accomplishments include a Bachelor of Science from Creighton University (1972) and a Master of Science from Loyola University of Chicago (1975). He received his Doctor of Medicine from Creighton University (1979).

Dr. Culkin's clinical training includes two years of general surgery training and three years of urology residency at Loyola University Medical Center (1979-1983). He completed additional years of subspecialty fellowship training in both neuro-urology and endourology (1983-1985).

His administrative responsibilities include chief of the Urology Section at the Oklahoma City Department of Veteran Affairs Medical Center. He is also very active in the Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG) and serves as a member of the executive committee of the SWOG Genitourinary Committee. He also serves as the SWOG Penile and Adrenal Organ Site Chair.

Dr. Culkin also has quite varied clinical and basic science interests. His research interests include bladder inflammation, urologic oncology, female incontinence, renal stone disease, renal transplantation, reconstructive urology, and minimally invasive urologic surgery. He has published over 250 articles, chapters, abstracts and presentations and has editorial responsibilities for the Journal of Urology, Urology, Cancer, Lancet, and Prostate.

At presentc Dr. Culkin has concentrated his practice in the area of urologic oncology dealing with cancers of prostate renal bladder testes adrenal and penile. He is active in surgical treatments and participates in many research protocols in cooperation with OUHSC and NCI cooperative groups delivering the newest and most innovative therapies at the SCC.
