OU Health is committed to making transferring your patient an easy process. Our Acceptance Center can accept transfers and assist in care consultation with specialty service lines.

OU Health's Acceptance is open 365/24/7 to accept adult and pediatric transfers. You'll always speak with an experienced RN Transfer Coordinator.

Our team is skilled with helping you throughout the transfer process, including:

  • Consultation with accepting physician specialist
  • Arranging for a patient bed
  • Communicating with nursing

Our goal is to ensure continuity of care for your patient. And if for any reason, there is a delay, we keep you informed, every step of the way.

Stable Adult Transfers

OU Health has a goal of accepting stable adult transfers in 5 minutes or less. Please have the following information ready. Please have this information ready.

  • Your name
  • Referring physician and hospital
  • Call back phone number
  • Service needed
  • Patient name
  • Date of birth
  • Diagnosis
  • Reason for transfer
  • Vital Signs (Blood pressure (MAP), pulse rate,
    respiratory rate, oxygenation)
  • Need for immediate intervention
    on arrival for stable transfers

Non-Stable Transfers

For non-stable transfers, nurses in the OU Health Acceptance Center will connect with our board-certified emergency medicine physicians for care consult and stabilization recommendations before they accept your transfer.

Level One Trauma Transfers

The Trauma Referral Center (TReC) for Oklahoma calls the Acceptance Center directly for Trauma Surgeon acceptance. Trauma Surgeons may provide stabilization recommendations as needed.

Level 2 Trauma Transfers

In January 2023, OU Health began auto accepting all Priority 2 Trauma Transfers, except those requiring hand surgery, regardless of the Oklahoma County Trauma Rotation Schedule. Hand trauma remains on a rotational call schedule, in which OU Health participates.
